New York, ca. 1820-1825.
Mahogany, mahogany veneer, tiger maple inlay, pine and poplar secondary woods.
Condition: Fine condition, restoration to the back left foot, minor imperfections. Appears to retain original cast lion-head brass. Retains a label on the original bottom shelf.
This desirable diminutive size has a few features that are similar to those attributed to the cabinet shop of Duncan Phyfe, the most noted New York cabinet maker of the period. The configuration of the drawers embellished with figured mahogany veneer, along with the form of the bottom shelf are typical features found in pieces made in New York. The turned brass front feet, the dovetailing on the drawers and the mahogany drawer bottoms are additional features found on pieces associated with the Phyfe cabinet shop.
