Oil on board. Appears to be original frame.
Condition: Excellent, minor losses (upper right side).
Blake was among the group of artists referred to as the Prior Hamblin School. The facial features of his subjects and application of paint are attributes of Blake's work. E. W. Blake attributions are made on stylistic grounds derived from two prominent signed works; one in the Shelburne Museum, a portrait of Leroy Darling and the other a portrait of Charles Wilson, aforementioned and sold in the Nina LIttle sale at Sotheby's.
