Transitional Chippendale Mirror

Transitional Chippendale Scroll Top Mirror with Carved Eagle. English or American, ca. 1790. Mahogany veneer, pine, gesso and gilt wood, backboards appear to be eastern white pine. Excellent condition with only a few glue blocks missing, gilt appears to be original with old varnish removed, original looking glass and backboards. Nearly identical types of mirrors have been associated with the merchant William Wilmerding. He sold these mirrors bearing his label in New York City from 1789 to about 1813.  There are a few examples illustrated in The Mirror Book by Herbert F. Schiffer, pg. 169, plates 435 and 436.
